There's something undeniably special about travel buddies. I recently had the chance to experience this firsthand, and it left me with some thoughts I couldn't wait to share.
I work for a remote company, and once a year our team comes together in person. This year we chose Barcelona. Let me tell you — Barcelona is an absolutely breathtaking city. The food, the vibe, the art, the architecture, the culture. From tapas to Gaudí's architectural wonders, it's the kind of place that pulls you in and doesn't let go. What made it even better was being there with my team.
The route, in four legs.

Bonding beyond borders.

Ten of us from the startup spent time together — eating pizza, sipping wine, visiting museums, checking out Gaudí's magnificent buildings. We hit iconic landmarks, took tons of group photos, shared stories over dinner, and created unforgettable memories. There's something about experiencing a city with others that just amplifies everything. Group dynamics added so much fun and connection to the trip.
Solo adventures: Italy and Prague.

After our team retreat, I decided to extend my journey solo — Rome, Florence, Milan, then Prague. Italy was a dream. Gelato in hand, I wandered streets filled with art, history, and culture. Florence, in particular, blew me away with its rich history and endless beauty. Solo travel has its own kind of magic — you're free to roam, follow your own pace, discover hidden corners — but it's different.
The travel-buddies factor.
What I found myself missing was the energy of a group. During my solo travels, I realized how much I enjoyed those moments of sharing. When you're with others, you swap food, laugh together, take group photos, and share in experiences that can't be recreated alone. The camaraderie, the collective joy, even the spontaneous changes in plans — they add layers of excitement to the journey.
- Swap food across the table, laugh at the same joke twice
- Group photos that become the year's best memories
- Spontaneous plan changes that become the actual highlight
- Collective joy that compounds — and lasts
- Your pace, your hours, your food, your turns
- Hidden corners the group would've rushed past
- Introspection a group can't quite give you
- The realization that the best bits still want to be shared
Family reunion in Prague and Kraków.
Eventually, I met up with my brother and his wife in Prague, and later we headed to Kraków together. It was like reconnecting with the essence of group travel all over again — sharing meals, exploring new places, creating fresh memories as a team. It reminded me why traveling in a group is so much more stimulating and fun. Solo travel can be an introspective journey, sure. But nothing compares to exploring, laughing, and learning together with friends or family.
Personal growth through shared experiences.
Beyond the fun and adventure, I firmly believe travel transforms us. It's in these moments that we grow as individuals. Group travel, in particular, lets us share ideas and reflections, to contrast different ways of thinking. My brother loves adventure and moves quickly through things — I prefer to take my time, admire details, really soak in the experience. Learning how to navigate those differences teaches you how to learn from others (and, in turn, how they learn from you).
The lasting impact of traveling together.
Every trip is a chance to expand your mind and your consciousness — not just culturally, but as a human being. You see the beauty of the world, but also some of its more difficult realities. It's all part of the journey. Learning to process those experiences, turning them into memories that shape who we are. In the end, the shared moments are the ones we value most. They're the ones that truly last.
