Why Themed Accommodations Make the Best Travel Memories

Anna Carolina Mendonca Mello Bastos

There’s usually a fine line between comfort and experience. Sure, sleeping in a nice, and very well-equipped hotel room which is conveniently well-spotted across downtown is great.

But think about it and picture yourself waking up in a place that feels like you’re still dreaming. It’ll surely be one of those memories that will stick with you long after you’ve unpacked your bags, right? And let’s be honest, it’s also the kind of history that makes your friends go, “Wait, where was that again? I need to book it!”

Trust me, it happens a lot more than you think. We’ll get into all of that in just a second. But hey, while you are here, make sure you tap that purple “Join the waitlist” button. Trippii is launching soon, and we assure you it’s going to change the way you travel. You’ll thank us later.

Now, let’s get into it

The Magic of Staying Somewhere Unforgettable

There is this thing that happens when the place you stay becomes part of the story. You know, when it is not just a bed to crash after sightseeing, but actually one of the highlights of the trip itself. You walk in, and suddenly, you are not just a traveler anymore. You are a kid again. Eyes spread and all, thinking “Okay, this is different.”

I once booked this train-themed hotel because I thought it looked kinda… Outlandish! Well, I then figured it would be fun for a night. But as soon as I stepped into that room designed like an old-school train carriage, with vintage suitcases stacked in the corner and a little conductor’s hat on the table, I felt like I was on a movie set. One could say I half-expected to hear someone shouting “Tickets, please!”

That is the thing about themed places like this. The best part is that you don’t need much to turn your room into a cool-themed space. You don’t need the perfect nature scenario of overwater bungalows that everyone dreams about. But what about sleeping inside a pineapple, just like the house to Spongebob? Or a plane-turned-hotel? Or even booking yourself a themed room in one of the Disneyland parks… The experience is pure magic! And you can even access the park one hour before it opens to the public.

These places are definitely not just somewhere to sleep. They give you those “This can’t be real” moments. It’s just that when the place you sleep in becomes part of the adventure, you just know you’ll be talking about it at every dinner party for the next ten years.

Unique Stays That Are Bucket List Worthy

Okay, now let’s dream together for a second. You know those places you see on Instagram or hear someone casually mention at a party and you immediately think “Wait, you actually stayed there? People do that?” It just sounds too surreal to be true, like sleeping in an igloo or waking up to friendly giraffes a few meters away from you.

These are the kind of stays that turn that regular trip into one you talk about for years to come. The kind you’ll scroll through photos later on and you won’t help but smile because the memory of it was unreal.

Now, let me show you what I mean. Here are a few places that will have you packing your bags faster than you can say “passport.”

Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort – Finland

Just picture this: You’re snuggled up in bed, wrapped in the warmest blankets, but instead of staring at a hotel ceiling, you’re looking up at the Northern Lights just dancing across the sky. That’s what happens when you stay in a glass igloo at Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort in Finland

It feels like you’ve just got a front-row seat to nature’s best light show. You go to sleep watching the sky shimmer in green and purple hues, and in the morning, you peek out at the snow-covered wilderness.

And listen, you do not need to be some kind of snow explorer to enjoy this. We’re talking about a resort, so you should expect saunas, reindeer sleigh rides, and even cozy little log cabins if you want a break from the cold. You can book yourself an igloo at the resort for around $680 per night. But bear in mind prices may vary according to the season or weekdays you’re visiting.

But honestly, once you spend a night under those stars, you’ll get it. You will be that person at the dinner party saying “You have not lived until you have seen the Northern Lights from your bed.”

Giraffe Manor – Kenya

Okay, now imagine this: you are sitting at breakfast, sipping your coffee, when suddenly a giraffe pokes its head through the window to say good morning. No, this is not some dream you had after watching a wildlife documentary. This is what actually happens at Giraffe Manor in Kenya.

We’re talking about a beautiful old manor house set in the middle of lush greenery, but the stars of the show are the friendly giraffes who roam freely around the property. Don’t worry, they’re harmless, but bear in mind they’re not shy at all! They’re not shy to the point they sometimes wander up to your breakfast table hoping you will share a snack. Needless to say feeding a giraffe from the palm of your hand is one of those moments that will stick with you forever, right?

This is one of those experiences that’s impossible to describe until you’re there. You can have this experience for about $1,200 per night, and you can book a room either directly with the Manor or close a Safari package with a certified company.

V8 Hotel – Germany

Okay, car lovers, this one is for you. Picture walking into your room and finding a bed made out of a classic vintage car. That is exactly what you get at the V8 Hotel in Stuttgart, Germany. Trust me, the place is so cool that you’ll feel like you’re in the middle of something special, even though you don’t know the difference between a convertible and a coupe.

Once you get there, you’ll figure that each room is themed around cars and the automotive world. We are talking about beds crafted from actual car parts, and even rooms styled to look like retro gas stations. The attention to detail is really something else, and the price is affordable, as you can book a room for around $190 per night.

And you know the best catch? You are right next to the Mercedes-Benz and Porsche museums, so you can spend your day geeking out over some of the most iconic cars ever built and then come back to sleep in your auto-themed room.

How to Find These Once-in-a-Lifetime Themed Stays

We all know that dreaming is the easy part. But how can we actually turn these wild dreams into actual real experiences? Well, the first step is to go to platforms like Airbnb and Booking. You can actually find the ones we’ve mentioned there, particularly with Booking. Bear in mind that themed accommodations are not exactly cheap, as they aim to deliver a top-class experience, so you’re paying for that too.

Remember that you don’t exactly need to turn to themed accommodations to have unforgettable trips. Sometimes, sharing a hostel with other like-minded travelers is just the best way to go. That’s why we’ve created Trippii, our upcoming app that will make sure you connect with like-minded Trippers.

Besides connecting and matching you with travelers with the same interests and intentions, you can also join and create trips with meeting points all over the world. So, are you planning a trip to the Swiss Alps but you don’t want to go by yourself? Just download Trippii, create your account, and create this trip. You can also invite other trippers or invite your friends who are not yet on the app. Ultimately, you can also join trips created by other trippers. DM features are also available.
