Paris

We couldn’t have such a list where Paris didn’t feature. We’re talking about the city of love, and for good reason. It’s the kind of place where romance flows as naturally as the Seine flowing through Paris’ heart. Every woman has already pictured herself strolling hand in hand along the cobblestone streets of Montmartre, with the Eiffel Tower sparkling in the distance. It’s just the kind of moment that makes you stop and think, “This is what love feels like.”
For first-goers, don’t worry, as it’s easy to get to the City of Light. If you’re arriving at the Charles de Gaulle airport, you can either book a taxi or hop on a train that will drop you at a station near your accommodation. The same works for those who’re coming by high-speed trains from other major European capitals.
Once you’re all set and ready to explore, the city is yours. Sure, you will want to visit the classics like the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. But once you guys hit those, don’t forget there’s more to explore. You guys could head to Canal Saint-Martin for a picnic with a bottle of good French wine and some local cheese, for example. Alternatively, why not give a chance to Le Marais and its hidden alleys?
The icing on the cake would be a day trip to Versailles or even Disneyland Park. Both destinations are within a short train ride from Paris. You just can’t go wrong with these destinations.
Amsterdam & Lisse

It’s no surprise Amsterdam making this list. But what about Lisse, have you ever heard about it? This city is truly a hidden gem, and it lies just a short trip of about a 50-minute drive from the Dutch capital. What makes Lisse so special you might be asking me. Well, it’s home to the world-famous Keukenhof Gardens, where you’ll find endless fields of tulips in every color imaginable. It’s just like walking through a rainbow, and it’s the perfect backdrop for a romantic day trip. Trust me, it’s worth every minute of the journey, and I can’t see a place that has a better Valentine’s Day aura than the Keukenhof Gardens. It’s worth every minute of your journey.
Back to Amsterdam, this is also one of those clichés that everyone will talk about. But clichés do exist for a reason, right? Amsterdam is one of those cities that feels like it was designed for lovers. It’s all about the Dutch cycling culture and its famous canals, but you can actually find much more there. It’s a movie scene to picture yourself gliding along the canals in a private boat, with those iconic bridges lit up by golden lights. It’s one of those moments that you want to hold onto forever.
Similarly to Paris, it’s such an easy task to get to Amsterdam. Whether you’re flying into the Schiphol Airport, or hopping on a train from other major cities, you can easily get to downtown Amsterdam by either catching a taxi or through the metro. Oh, and if you guys have time, why not take your chance and also go to Brussels in Belgium? It’s another iconic city that’s got the Valentine’s Day vibe all over it! Whatever you guys decide, just make sure to enjoy each other and have a great time together!
Verona & Venice

I must confess it was hard to pick just these two Italian cities for this list. Italy is something else. Out of the plethora of stunning cities Italy offers, I had to pick two of the most famous ones and one of the reasons why I picked Verona and Venice was that it’s just so convenient to go from one city to the other. Both are located in the Veneto region, Northeast of Italy, and you can go from Verona to Venice in a matter of 20 minutes by train, which is just so handy.
But let’s speak facts now. Starting with Verona, which is “only” the city of Romeo and Juliet. Another cliché for Valentine’s Day, but honestly? It’s just so worth it. Just picture yourself walking through Verona alongside your Valentine. It feels just like stepping into a Shakespearean play. Classic cobblestone streets, medieval architecture, and their version of the Colosseum from the Roman Era. Verona has it all, and the sense of drama is hard to ignore.
You guys will want to visit Juliet’s balcony, and that’s fine. But do not stop there. Piazza delle Erbe also has its charm, with the market stalls and outdoor cafés creating a lively romantic atmosphere.
Got tired of Verona? So make it a double feature and head to Venice. This one doesn’t need any introduction, does it? The canals, gondola rides, and the iconic scene of Venice. How can you skip a gondola ride across the Venetian waters? Also, make sure to take that famous couple’s picture at the Rialto Bridge. But don’t forget that you can also explore Cannaregio’s hidden artisan shops and get those famous Venetian masks.
The beauty of pairing Verona and Venice is that they complement each other perfectly. Verona will give you that intimate, Shakespearean romance, while Venice brings the grandeur. You just can’t go wrong with this duo.
Edinburgh

Up next we have Edinburgh. This one doesn’t have the obvious romance of Paris or Venice, but it’s almost unexplainable the mysterious, yet charming vibe this Scottish city passes on. There’s just something about its moody charm that makes it so special. Maybe it’s the way the medieval skyline meets the rolling hills of Scotland. I can assure you that if you’re a couple who loves a bit of mystery, with that touch of adventure, then you’ll have a great Valentine’s Day here.
A good start is at the Royal Mile, which is basically an avenue that runs through the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, connecting Edinburgh Castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Throughout the iconic Royal Mile you can find traditional pubs, hidden alleyways, and even those iconic red telephone booths that will just add up to the British experience.
We recommend you wander hand in hand throughout the streets of Edinburgh. You’ll get the feeling that you’re stepping into another time. Every corner of the city feels like a scene from a historical novel.
You can also book a table at The Witchery by the Castle, as this restaurant is all about gothic romance, with an atmosphere that makes you feel like you are in an old-world fairytale. This city is not the most obvious Valentine’s Day pick, but that’s exactly what makes it special. It doesn’t try to be romantic. It just is.
Tallinn

We couldn’t leave Eastern Europe out of it, so we decided to go for Estonia’s capital, Tallinn. This city feels like a secret, as most Western travelers haven’t realized yet that we’re talking about a true hidden gem. Out of the cities we’ve mentioned here, Tallinn is the most peculiar one, as we can literally find a perfect blend of the lovely medieval fairytale vibes with a touch of a modern twist. This mix creates a unique setting for a romantic escape.
The Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it has its own charm. Just picture narrow cobblestone streets and pastel-colored buildings with hidden courtyards that lead you to medieval towers that still guard the city to this day.
Toompea Hill has a breathtaking view, from where you can see the red rooftops of the Old Town stretching towards the Baltic Sea. We recommend you guys get there a little before sunset, as you can witness shades of pink and orange in the sky. Such a beautiful backdrop is just the perfect scene for a romantic moment.
So, if you want an unexplored and unique romantic getaway, why not give Tallinn a chance for Valentine’s Day 2025?
Lisbon & Sintra

We’ve all heard of Lisbon, right? Especially over the last decade, when the Portuguese capital gained a lot of notoriety due to an unexpectedly low cost of living for what it offers in terms of good weather, and delicious cuisine. However, what about Sintra, which is just that place that makes you question whether you’re stepping into a dream? It looks almost too magical to be real.
Pair the two and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a romantic Valentine’s Day getaway in Portugal. The best way to get to Sintra from Lisbon is to hop on a train, as it will take you guys directly to this little town packed with palaces, mysterious gardens, and old castles in about 40 minutes.
You must see the colorful Pena Palace, which is located at the top of a hill, and it looks like it’s straight out of a Disney movie. There’s also the Moorish Castle which has a different vibe with its ancient stone walls and breathtaking views that stretch to the ocean.
Then, back to Lisbon, and it’s a different kind of romance. The iconic hills and trams in downtown Lisbon are just something else. But the most special place to get the most out of your Valentine’s Day in Lisbon is to head to Miradouro da Senhora do Monte. However, it’s a bit of a climb, so it’s not for everyone. But for those of you who want to see the whole city glowing under golden light, then it’s the perfect scene.
Sintra and Lisbon might be different, but together, they create the kind of Valentine’s Day trip that will stick with you forever!
